Correct.
Not sure how well that will work, just a suggestion.

I don't know if you guys have played Runescape, but a Dueling Arena is exactly what GuildWars needs. Not everyone wants to fight in a team all the time. I'm not so sure about the betting though...

Well maybe there should be a gladiator arena where you can go against other players 1 on 1 and cast bets as to the outcome and such i believe there is a desire and a need for 1v1 duels in the game no matter weather it's for solving problems or just fun

I really like the idea of duels, however, being rewarded for them is a bad idea. Being able to bet on them is a bad idea. People would exploit both of those.

Mesmers and Necromancers can beat warriors with the right spells, thats what they're about, but so can anyone, if you set up your character to battle a certain class your going to have the advantage, unless they have done the same. Although certain classes can be better then others, warrior is naturally way more efficient then others, and very few can withstand an onslaught for long. You may boast "ultimate healing" capabilities and the like, but a warrior with a hammer can knock you down over and over til your dead. There are ways around every tactic, but Warrior is the easiest and most solid to maintain because thier advantage relies on thier perminant armor and weapon class rather then skills that can be disrupted.
I don't think duels are appropriate unless they are same class duels, but with a few added armors and weapons for every job it could balance out.

Ah, the voice of reason...
Also, if you add rewards or anything, it will be HEAVILY exploited...
Rather than betting on 1v1s that last forever, why not have an option to bet on normal battles? 1v1 doesn't seem like too good an idea for such a team-based game...

Dueling
Whether or not this has been suggested already I don't know but I have searched through the recent posts and found none. This is my perception of how I would expect these to work. Okay then lets start.
Duelling
In each Arena or within a Guild Hall beside the trade option there would be a duel option. When you select duel a sub-menu would pop up.
-> Rewards (Battles for items or cash) -Arena Only-
Similar to trade except once the items offered have been accepted by both parties the 2 parties would then fight for the items.
-> Rank (Battling for Member/Officer/ Leader Rank) -Guild Hall Only-
Inviting a new member
When someone is invited to the guild you would be able now be able to "Accept" them or "Challenge" them. "Accept" would have it work same as it always has. A "Challenge" would result in both people (the officer and contender) to battle it out. The officer at the end of the battle would then decide to "Accept" or "Decline" the contender entrance to the guild.
Achieving Rank
Those who already are members can simply be appointed power within the guild (how it is currently). Or can "Challenge" each other for positions. A Member could not challenge another Member, but a Member may "Challenge" a Officer for his/her rank. To achieve Leader you must hold the Officer Rank first.
-> Exhibition (Nothings at risk purely fun) -Arena Only-
This is simply a 1 vs 1 match resulting in no reward. You would enter a 1 vs 1 match against your selected opponent.
So you've heard my idea now what are you thoughts? Any idea to fix this or patch it? Find any possible problems?

You must not have searched very far to not discover any of the thousand threads that's been posted on this subject...
1v1 has no place in this game. It's not balanced for single combat.

Person who wins gets to choose an item from dead guy and gets a set some of money (100gp?), this would reduce a load of people just scrapping it out all over the place. It would introduce a fun, random, exciting aspect. Two people duelling it out people crowding round to watch.........
Thoughts?

You have a great idea! Dueling someone you don't like instead of whining about something like a baby is a great idea! You should come up with more ideas like that.

About 1 on 1 arena.
Maybe this thread doesn't belong here but I'd like to give my two cents. I went to the official Guild Wars site and there stood that I should write on one of these forums for suggestions.
This game "Guild Wars" got one of the best PvP-systems out there. How about a 1 on 1 arena ?
For example:
1. I go to a "Guild Challenger" in a specific arena.
2. I invite the one I'd like to challenge and he/she accepts.
3. I invite spectators who would like to observe our match.
4. When all are ready, we start the match.
The playerboard could look like this for example:
-Board-
!! Players !!
* Player 1 ( red team )
* Player 2 ( blue team )
!! Spectators !!
* Spectator 1
* Spectator 2
* Spectator 3
* Spectator 4
* Spectator 5
I think that many players out there would like this too.
What do you think ?

This idea has been done millions of times before, and is not all that good of an idea in my opinion.
In 1v1, A good mesmer would destroy all, Backfire would kill the mages, empathy and Spirit of Failure would kill the Warriors and Rangers.
Please search the forums before posting a thread.

lol..
Don't listen to him Paine. If you're saying a mesmer could destroy all then you could also say that all rangers suck with no doubt. 1 on 1 is a great idea!

What could kill a ranger 1v1? with all the interrupts they have, they would be hard to damage. And I don't think Rangers suck.
EDIT: sorry I meant what could kill a MESMER 1v1, not ranger.

Hey Arnansnow, we do not "FORCE" you to participate in a 1 on 1 arena. It was a game suggestion.

I really don't think 1vs1 would work well at all in Guild Wars...
